Are you attempting to evaluate the effectiveness of your actions now, and into the future?
The Wheel of Life Tool
We are now two weeks into the new year and for me, as much I intended to know before 2020 ended, I’m still attempting to evaluate.
You're trying to create new life landmarks, and your goals are the signposts that help you to move forward in your life in new and exciting ways.
So where to start?
Let's begin with taking a measurement of how satisfied you are in all the different areas of your life. It’s not a test, and no one but you is looking! It’s simply a snapshot of how you are feeling about your level of satisfaction in life today.
The Wheel of Life was introduced to me during coaches' training. There’s a copy online and in the header picture of this article. Print a copy, grab a pen or pencil, and follow these instructions to create a new perimeter for the wheel.
The eight sections represent balance in life.
To gauge your level of satisfaction, look at the center of the wheel as 0 and the outer edge as 10.
Now, rank your level of satisfaction with each life area by connecting the lines to create a new outer edge.
The new perimeter of the circle represents your Wheel of Life. If a section doesn't speak to you, cross it out and write one that applies to you.
It’s not the goal to score a perfectly round perimeter. Rather, notice where you transition between sections of your life and how smooth or bumpy the transition is.
Feel into each section, and see what comes up for you.
Is an area you rank highly really satisfying?
Does the high priority career secretly bore you?
Does your side hustle make you feel excited and happy, but scored low?
Question: How bumpy would the ride be if this were a real wheel?
Would it be jolting, jarring, uncomfortable, rough, irregular, choppy, bouncy, bumpy, and uneven with many patches raised above the rest?
